Partnership between Etihad Airways and Garuda Indonesia

Etihad Airways, the national carrier of the United Arab Emirates, and Garuda Indonesia, the national carrier of the Republic of Indonesia, have agreed to strengthen their partnership, by expanding the scope of the codeshare agreement signed at the beginning of 2012, between the two companies, to nearly double the number of joint destinations provided by Etihad and « Garuda” beyond Abu Dhabi and Jakarta, and includes 42 destinations across the Indonesian archipelago, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, the United States and Europe.

The two partners provide the opportunity to exchange, collect and redeem miles for members of the Etihad Guest and Garuda Miles programs across the two companies’ networks and destinations, and will allow members to benefit from joint marketing activities.

The two carriers intend to explore ways of cooperation in light of market opportunities and business requirements, including freight services, maintenance, repair and overhaul, and training of pilots and cabin crew.

The two parties signed a memorandum of understanding that covered areas of cooperation on the sidelines of the B20 summit that was held in Bali, Indonesia, the day before yesterday, in the presence of Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of State for Foreign Trade, and Ahmed bin Ali Muhammad Al Sayegh, Minister of State.

“This collaboration will serve as a platform for the formation of a deep and enduring partnership between the two airlines,” said Antonwaldo Neves, Chief Executive Officer of Etihad Aviation Group.

Irfan Setiaputra, President and CEO of Garuda Indonesia, said: “Our main focus is on connecting Indonesia with the world, and thus strengthening relations with a wide range of rich and diverse cultures across the archipelago.”
