Cigna International: Dubai is the most active city in the world

Jerome Drosh, CEO of the Home Health and Health Services Department at Cigna International, confirmed that Dubai provides residents and those coming to it with a distinct level of luxury, as the emirate has established its position as a global destination for security and comfort, which is reflected in the increasing demand by a large number from around the world to move to Dubai to live there permanently.

Drosh said, in an interview with Al-Bayan, that Dubai occupies an advanced position in various international indicators that monitor the levels of well-being enjoyed by the population, whether they are Emiratis or residents and even visitors, including the Cigna 360 Health and Wellness Survey.

Darrosh added, “Dubai offers a high quality of life for those coming to it, and is known as the most active city around the world, with a dynamic economy, strategic geographical location, and unparalleled lifestyle. The emirate’s thriving economy, driven by massive government investment and the city’s status as a financial hub, has had a huge impact on visitors.

The emirate’s government has set a goal of reaching 5.8 million people by 2040, and is planning a major expansion of the city as part of its economic diversification strategy. Dubai’s strong economic performance, along with its ambitious growth plans, adds to the UAE’s attractiveness as a preferred global destination.

He continued: The UAE ranked first in the Middle East, Africa and Asia, and eighth in the world in terms of attracting expatriates, according to the latest edition to date of the Cigna 360 Health and Wellness Survey.

According to the results of the survey, this advanced position achieved by the UAE is attributed to several factors, supported by several important statistics. The expatriates who move to the UAE reside for a longer period than their counterparts in other countries, as the average length of their stay in the UAE is 4.4 years, which is much higher than the global average of 3.2 years. The longer period of residence reflects the quality of life, better financial incomes, and a more stable labor market. In the country compared to other countries, the UAE is also an ideal destination for the career options it offers, as 40% of employees in the UAE moved to different jobs during 2021, compared to the global average of 24%. And 55% of residents in the country expressed their desire to change jobs during the next 12 months, which is higher than the global average of 36%.

qualitative shifts

During the past decade, the government has achieved qualitative shifts that have enhanced the country’s attractiveness, whether in terms of ease of doing business in it, or as a global destination for travel and tourism, as the country enjoys a prosperous and stable economy, thanks to massive government investments.

The emirate is also a leading financial center in the region, which contributes to attracting a large number of expatriates every year. Dubai’s population also increased from 3.3 million in 2019 to more than 3.5 million last year, after the pandemic.

Social responsibility

On the extent to which companies in Dubai are committed to the principle of social responsibility, Drosh said: Dubai companies are increasingly prioritizing the well-being of employees by providing a supportive work environment, promoting work-life balance according to flexible arrangements, and providing access to mental health resources and supporting physical activity.

With the goal of improving mental health and addressing burnout, an increasing number of companies are offering lifelong learning opportunities, challenges, volunteering, and financial wellness programs.

These companies are aware of privacy concerns and communication obstacles, as they focus on approaches based on receiving feedback and long-term adoption. For example, Cigna Healthcare recently launched a campaign entitled “The 5% Pledge,” which invites CEOs, business leaders, and people managers. To publicly commit to dedicating 5% of their annual working hours to promoting a shift in organizational cultures and to proactively attending to employee well-being. Our research shows that such initiatives can make a huge difference in productivity and employee retention. The institutional response so far is encouraging.

business promotion

Darroch concluded, “The government-led developments have instilled a corporate and management culture that emphasizes sustainability and responsible business practices. Dubai is a leading example in the region of promoting responsible business and leveraging partnerships between public and private stakeholders to address CSR issues and increase social impact.
