Italy’s population will decline by 11.5 million people in 50 years

The Italian National Statistical Office (ISTAT) expects the country’s population to decline by 11.5 million people over the next 50 years.

In a statement published today on its website on the latest population growth forecasts, ESTAT said that the demographic census will continue to decline, and will decrease from 59.2 million people in January 2021, to 59.7 million people in 2030.

In 2050, the population will reach 54.2 million, and then decline to 47.7 million in 2070.

Within 10 years, the population is expected to decline in 4 out of 5 Italian towns and cities, and in 9 out of 10 rural areas.
