Dubai Electricity and Water »calls for the application of precautionary measures when using electrical appliances

DEWA has drawn the public’s attention to the need to take all necessary measures to avoid risks and fires resulting from misuse of electrical appliances and connections, high temperatures during the summer, or failure to perform the necessary periodic maintenance and checks. The Authority called on customers to benefit from its smart services and advice provided through its website and smart application, to protect individuals and property, and to ensure the safe and proper use of electricity. The authority stressed the importance of choosing original electrical appliances that conform to the specifications, which are characterized by high quality and observance of safety conditions, with the necessity of accrediting specialized technicians in the tasks of carrying out wiring and maintenance work and not dealing directly with electricity sources.

The authority noted the importance of fully ensuring the safety of connections, extensions, electrical wires and plugs, especially during the summer, and ensuring the capacity of electrical appliances and not exceeding the established operating limits or overloading them. The authority also indicated the need to avoid connecting more than one device to electrical supply sources or distributors that exceed its carrying capacity.

With regard to electrical installations inside homes, the Authority advised to protect wires inside heat-insulated tubes, to be careful of exposed wires and corroded or damaged electrical parts, and to replace them immediately, or cover them with insulating tape until they are replaced, and to avoid passing electrical wires through corridors, doors or windows.

In order to preserve household electrical appliances, the authority advises the following preventive measures: using heat-producing appliances such as an iron, water boiler, or electric oven via a plug directly without using a plug, paying attention to the electric kettle during its work, putting a sufficient amount of water during operation, disconnecting the electricity source when using the electrical appliance is finished, placing electrical appliances in a well-ventilated place so that they are well visible, and away from fabrics and curtains, and prevent dust accumulation on the appliances, and leave a distance between electrical appliances such as the refrigerator and the wall.

The authority indicated that the services of a qualified electrician should be used to carry out periodic maintenance work. The authority provides, through the “Dewa Store” on its smart application, the names of technical service providers with whom customers can communicate in the event of internal malfunctions in the building. The “Dewa Store” also allows benefiting from discounts for the authority’s customers. The authority allocates the emergency number 991 for any emergency technical communications.

As a socially responsible institution, DEWA launches awareness campaigns and smart services to help the public preserve precious resources, lives and property and reduce waste, including the “smart response” service, “high water consumption notification”, the “smart life” initiative, and the “my sustainable approach” program.
