Stock indexes in China and Australia fell shortly after they opened for trading on Tuesday, weighed down by US stock indexes on Wall Street.
The Chinese CSI 300 index fell 1.47 percent, while the Shanghai Composite fell 2 percent.
Australian shares also fell sharply as the ISX index fell markedly with the start of trading on Tuesday.
The S & P / ASX 200 index fell 165.1 points, or 2.74 percent, in the first hour of trading, with weak performance across all sectors including banks, energy, oil and mining.
