Trade talks during days between Beijing and Washington

China and the United States will hold trade talks at vice-ministerial level in Beijing on Jan. 7 and 8, as both sides seek to end a dispute that is increasingly damaging the economies of both countries and disrupts world financial markets.
The two countries engaged in a trade war for most of last year, disrupting the flow of goods in hundreds of billions of dollars and fueling fears of a global economic slowdown.
A team led by US Deputy Trade Representative Jeffrey Geresh will arrive in China for “positive and constructive talks” with his Chinese counterparts, the Ministry of Commerce said in a statement on its website.
The ministry said the two sides “confirmed” the dates during a telephone call on Friday morning, but did not elaborate.
Last year, there was a mutual assumption between America and China for additional customs duties on the goods of the two countries, before the two sides decided in December to “cut and cancel” the fees.
