Dubai, represented by the Dubai Multi Commodities Center, plans to soon establish centers for the re-export of drinking water, nuts and cocoa.

Work is underway to establish a new regional center specialized in all services related to the treatment, bottling and re-export of drinking water, with the aim of increasing trade and re-exports through its lands to various global markets.

Saeed Al-Suwaidi, Director of Agricultural Commodities at the Dubai Multi Commodities Center, said: We have received offers from international water companies, which have expressed their desire to establish production lines for them in the drinking water treatment and bottling center that we want to establish soon, as 50% of the drinking water circulated in The UAE is packed abroad.

Al-Suwaidi explained: The timing of the launch of the water center depends on the completion of studies related to supply chains and the requirements for packaging production and re-export, and we have received many studies and economic feasibility studies related to this matter.

Through the center, Dubai succeeded in placing its name among the major producers and re-exporters of the most important agricultural commodities such as coffee and tea, as the center’s coffee and tea centers are among the largest in the world and one of the most important centers in trading and packing coffee and tea and re-exporting them, and the UAE ranked first in the world as the largest Re-export of tea globally, with its acquisition of 60% of re-export of the commodity and the fifth in its trade.

Al-Suwaidi indicated: We plan to launch an advanced cocoa center, to transform Dubai into an international center for the trade of this important food item with high demand, as part of its medium-to-long-term development strategy, and pointed to the possibility of establishing another center specialized in the production, packaging and re-export of nuts, specifically 4 types. Including about 440 million tea bags, indicating that the total value of tea traded through the tea center has grown by 23% compared to 2021 to exceed 100 million dirhams during the past year through the circulation of 3,500 unpackaged tea containers.

Al-Suwaidi continued: It is the center of tea; A dedicated facility that combines storage, blending and packaging services, providing the most complete and convenient solutions for merchants looking to maintain a stock capable of meeting the requirements of importers in the Middle East and neighboring regions. The center processes tea requests from 13 different countries producing the commodity, especially from the four countries. major in its production, in line with the center’s mission of facilitating tea trade for buyers internationally.

Al-Suwaidi explained: The tea center is currently implementing a plan aimed at expanding and doubling production by three times, enhancing services and raising absorptive capacity, with a focus on increasing capacity in tea packaging, as the center succeeded in producing more than 440 million tea bags during the year 2022.
