Abu Dhabi, February 10, H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Presidential Court, received at Qasr Al Watan the work team of the Sheikh Khalifa Center for Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering, headed by Dr. Khaled Amiri, Director of the Center.

His Highness listened to a detailed explanation of the center’s goals and strategic plans in the fields of qualitative scientific research and genetic engineering. His Highness was also briefed on the results of the center’s research projects and future work plans in the fields of sustainable agricultural development and scientific research, developing agricultural production mechanisms and achieving food security for the country.

His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed stressed that the UAE was able, thanks to the directives of its wise leadership and the efforts of its loyal sons, to progress in the field of agriculture, promote sustainable development, support scientific research and innovation in all fields related to food security and develop local agricultural production, following the approach of the late founding father. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God rest his soul, who was distinguished by his keenness to develop the agricultural sector and his interest in providing sustainable solutions to overcome all the challenges that the country faced in its journey towards ensuring food security and the quality of agricultural products for all its residents.

His Highness appreciated the efforts of the “Khalifa Center for Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering” team and their endeavor to achieve leadership in the field of genetic engineering, discovery and scientific research to develop crop cultivation and production in the UAE, directing His Highness to increase innovative practical research in this field, and to ensure the adoption of the best international standards and leading practices in The field of agricultural sector technologies and sustainable solutions to achieve food security.

In turn, Dr. Khalid Amiri, Director of the Khalifa Center for Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering, said that the center seeks to achieve the vision of rational leadership in the field of research, agricultural innovation, and sustainable agricultural practices, praising the generous support the center receives from His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, adding that, And based on the directives of His Highness, a new strategy for the work of the Center was developed, and scientific platforms were established in order to reach the desired goals of its research activities and practical experiences.

Khaled Amiri indicated that the center’s strategy is based on studying the UAE environment in an effort to meet the challenges facing the country in the field of achieving food security, developing agricultural crops, and improving the ability of plants to resist various factors and influences in the local environment.

It is noteworthy that the “Cabinet of Ministers” issued a decision last year regarding the reorganization of the “Khalifa Center for Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering”, to follow the “Diwan of the Presidency” and enjoy the legal personality and the financial and administrative independence necessary to achieve its goals, as the center will specialize in developing and implementing research programs in cooperation with federal and local authorities. Providing expertise and scientific consultation services to government agencies and the private sector, conducting applied studies and research, assisting university students and research cadres in preparing studies and research, as well as establishing companies or contributing and participating in national efforts to revitalize science, research, and scientific and technological activities in the fields of biotechnology and genetic engineering.
