A system supported by artificial intelligence for pedestrian crossing in “Dubai Silicon”

»

Dubai Silicon Oasis, which is affiliated with the Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority (DIZ), along with DERQ, the developer of artificial intelligence analytics solutions for road safety and traffic management, achieved a new joint achievement after the successful implementation of 14 smart pedestrian crossing systems in various areas of the oasis. This is within the framework of the partnership between the two sides, to cooperate in providing Dubai Silicon Oasis with advanced capabilities and smart city solutions.

DIERQ has specially designed the AI platform for real-time recognition and communication to detect pedestrians, cyclists and other road users with exceptional accuracy and reliability. The system, the first of its kind in the region, integrates seamlessly with the road infrastructure. In order to improve safety procedures. Using patented behavior prediction models, the technology can trigger flashers, road warning lights, and even traffic light control units in anticipation of pedestrian crossings, ensuring that potential vehicle collisions are actively pre-empted as they approach. The system also collects valuable data; With the aim of enhancing the level of awareness of road users and the speed of response of the authorities concerned with safety and traffic performance. This achievement comes as a result of extensive testing conducted over the years to ensure the integrity and effectiveness of the system principle.

Premium environment

Muammar Al Kathiri, Executive Director of Engineering and Sustainability at Dies, said: “The implementation of the Deraq Smart Pedestrian Crossing System in Dubai Silicon Oasis is directly in line with the objectives set out in the Dubai Urban Plan 2040. By incorporating this advanced technology, we provide a distinct environment that prioritizes innovation. Safety and sustainability. This system is an essential pillar in establishing Dubai Silicon Oasis as a technologically advanced area, providing residents and business partners with a smart and seamless life and work experience. Through our ongoing partnership with Diraq, we will continue to make continuous progress in ensuring pedestrian safety and promoting Dubai’s Smart City agenda.”

Solid safety measures

Dr. George Odeh, CEO and co-founder of Dirig, said: “Our cooperation with the Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority is in line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council, to qualify Dubai as a bike-friendly city with robust safety measures. and to popularize environmentally friendly transportation options. The authority played an important role in the successful implementation of our advanced smart pedestrian crossing system in Dubai Silicon Oasis. And while we remain firmly committed to our mission; In driving the future of road safety and enabling smooth and efficient movement of road users and autonomous vehicles, this achievement is of immense significance. We look forward to achieving tangible results, which will reflect the positive impact of our efforts in Dubai and around the world.”

vehicle monitoring

The AI algorithms are designed for the new system; With the aim of monitoring vehicles and other road users approaching crosswalks. This ability increases the effectiveness of the system and the timing of interaction with nearby vehicles. Control algorithms within the system also provide the flexibility to enable or disable alerts and control their duration, allowing for custom design based on specific transit scenarios. Alerts can be configured to remain active during a pre-determined crossing time or if an object is still detected in the crosswalk or its vicinity. This advanced function ensures optimum safety and effective traffic management on pedestrian crossings.

The system is also equipped with ultra-fast 5G connectivity and low latency, providing seamless, advanced connectivity that ensures large-scale data collection of safety and traffic data, while facilitating remote operation, maintenance and configuration capabilities for the system operator. In the future, the system will be able to take advantage of 5G technology to actively send safety information and alerts to connected vehicles approaching crosswalks.
