Saudi Standardization, Metrology and Quality Standards issued 348 new standards in various sectors during 2018, and 769 Saudi standard specifications were updated, modified and translated to reach more than 29,861 standards.
A total of 348 new standards have been prepared and approved by the technical teams formed by the Authority, which include members from governmental, academic, research and private sectors (manufacturers or importers), or technicians in technical departments of the General Directorate of Standardization. Electrical and electronic products at a rate of 26%, followed by the chemicals and petroleum products sector with 18%, followed by the services sector by 16%, the construction products sector which reached 11% this year, For mechanical products by 12%, scales and scales by 9% and finally textile products by 8%.
The Standards Authority revealed the existence of (285) standard drafts in the various stages of study and preparation, including 27 specifications for construction and building materials, 31 for electrical and electronic products, 42 for the mechanical and metal products sector, 30 for chemical and petroleum products, The standard specifications for yarn and textile products reached 29, in addition to 87 standard specifications for scales and scales, and 39 specifications for services.
