“Abu Dhabi Powerboat” leaves for Indonesia in preparation for the opening round of the World Championships

Abu Dhabi, February 21, The Abu Dhabi Powerboat Team delegation left for the Indonesian city of Kopiko, in preparation for participating in the first and inaugural round of the Formula 1 World Powerboat Championship, which is being hosted by the city for the first time in its history, as it is held on Lake Toba.
The delegation is headed by Nasser Al Dhaheri, Head of the Modern Racing Department at the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club, and includes the competitors, Thani Al Qamzi, Sean Torrente, and Juma Al Qubaisi (Radio Man).
The Abu Dhabi boat team will launch its tournament in the championship, starting next Thursday, through a technical examination of the participating boats, then free trials next Friday, with the main race competitions starting next Saturday, and the final round on Sunday.
Twenty boats will participate in the opening round, including the Abu Dhabi boats and the Victorian boats, which return to the competition after years of absence, to form an important addition to the UAE teams in the world championship.
The Abu Dhabi team is considered the best in terms of titles and achievements in the tournament, having won the general title 8 times, while it seeks to crown it for the ninth time.
The Abu Dhabi team, with its two boats “Abu Dhabi 1” and “Abu Dhabi 2”, led by Thani Al Qamzi and Shawn Torrente, achieved the triple world championship last season after a difficult victory in the final round of the championship, which was held in the Emirate of Sharjah.
The Abu Dhabi team is waiting for a busy season for the championship, starting with the first round in Indonesia, this week, then the China tour next April, followed by 3 European rounds, starting from France, then Asia, to the final round in Sharjah.
Nasser Al Dhaheri, Head of the Abu Dhabi Team Mission, thanked Sheikh Mohammed bin Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club, for his continuous support to the club and the team in order to reach full readiness to compete.
He added: “The team enters the first rounds of the tournament armed with winning the title last season, and with the ambition to defend it, among a strong elite of competitors. We hope to achieve the desired goal, after good preparation for this participation.”
