Hacking FBI computers

On Friday, CNN reported, according to informed sources, that the computers of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in New York

“The FBI is aware of the incident and is working to obtain additional information,” the FBI said in a statement to the network, adding that it was still conducting its investigation into cybercrime. “This is an isolated incident that has been contained,” the office said.

It was not immediately clear when the hacking took place. A source told CNN that the source of the incident is still under investigation.

CNN quoted two sources familiar with the matter as saying that FBI officials believe the incident relates to computers used in the office to investigate child abuse. The hacking of the FBI is the latest in a series of such incidents on prominent US government institutions over a decade.

In late 2020, officials discovered a large-scale cyber espionage operation in a number of federal networks from hackers linked to Russian intelligence.

In 2015, the Office of Personnel Management said it had also been hacked and that federal employee records had been stolen. The office hack was later attributed to Chinese hackers.
