01-05-2019 Media iN\ Riyadh

The Saudi ports, which are supervised by the General Authority of Ports, have witnessed an increase in the total number of transshipment containers during the first quarter of 2019 by 516 thousand containers, an increase of 1.14% compared to the same period last year of 510 thousand containers.

This increase in the total number of transshipment containers is a confirmation of the integration of infrastructure, increasing operational capacity and efficiency, as well as advanced handling equipment in Saudi ports and ease of procedures, as well as the speed of loading and unloading operations.

Transshipment is a value-added service that the hub ports of the world seek to increase by attracting regular international shipping lines, in line with the kingdom’s ambition to become a global logistics platform.

The Saudi ports achieved an increase in the total number of transshipment containers during the month of March 2019 by 166,389 thousand container vessels, an increase of 8.72%, compared to the same period of the previous year of 152,946 thousand containers.
