Jordan’s Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Dr. Tarek Al-Hamouri said that the kingdom has a large supply of wheat for domestic consumption for a period of 12 months and includes quantities stored in silos, land containers and contracted quantities, respectively, under the contracts signed with the supplying companies.

He added that al-Juwaidah silos can accommodate about 220,000 tons and the northern silos in Irbid are 130 thousand tons and Al-Rsaifeh are 130 thousand tons and the aquifers in Zarqa are 350,000 tons and the Aqaba silos are 100 thousand tons. Thousand tons can be increased in addition to 60 thousand tons in the containers of Mafraq Governorate.
He explained that the Kingdom’s storage capacity for wheat and barley will reach about 1.2 million tons after the expansion.
He pointed out that new silos have been established in the new port of Aqaba with a storage capacity of 100 thousand tons for wheat and barley, which was completed in April 2017 and received by the Aqaba Development Company and is currently managed by the Jordanian silos company wholly owned by the government.
He added that these silos were established as an alternative to the old silos in the old port. Storage operations started in early 2018. He pointed out that there are projects to expand these silos to increase their storage capacity to 200 thousand tons, although the old silos reached a storage capacity of 130 thousand tons.
