US stocks open lower

US stocks opened lower in the first session this year, with weak data from Asia and Europe reflecting fears of a global economic slowdown as the US government continues to close.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 268.85 points, or 1.15 percent, at 23.058.61. The Nasdaq & Power 500 index shed 29.89 points, or 1.19 percent, to 2,476.96. The NASDAQ Composite Index was down 128.37 points or 1.93 points. Percent to 6506.91 points at the opening bell.
