Ministry of economy calls for adequate supply of vegetables and fruits during Ramadan

The Ministry of Economy held several meetings with the committees of vegetables and fruits in Abu Dhabi and Dubai and it was agreed to provide the largest possible amount of vegetables and fruits in preparation for the month of Ramadan and to meet the expected increase in demand and maintain stable rates of prices.

The Director of Competition and Consumer Protection Department of the Ministry of Economy said that the daily import rate for vegetables and fruits in the Dubai market during the holy month of Ramadan will reach 23-25 ​​thousand tons while the imports of Abu Dhabi traders will exceed 4,500 tons on a daily basis.

The current stock of vegetables and fruits has increased to about 130 thousand tons this year with the recent development witnessed by storage refrigerators in the port markets in Abu Dhabi and Al-Aweer in Dubai.

He added that the suppliers confirmed their commitment to cover the needs of local markets for goods and products and to avoid any shortage of commodities throughout the year, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.

The meeting included the directives and recommendations of the Supreme Committee for Consumer Protection chaired by His Excellency Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri, Minister of Economy, and reviewed a number of measures and preparations made by the Ministry and its strategic partners to ensure best practices to provide consumer protection throughout the year in general and in the month of Ramadan in particular.

He pointed out that the price stabilization initiative continues this year for the seventh year in a row, explaining that the initiative includes about 5000 commodities this year, an increase of about 11 percent in the number of goods installed last year
