The value of foreign trade in non-oil goods through the ports of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi reached AED 35.8 billion during January and February of 2019, an increase of 11.5% compared to AED 32.1 billion during the same period of 2018.
On a monthly basis, the value of Abu Dhabi’s non-oil trade increased to AED 16.6 billion in February 2019, an increase of 7.3% compared to AED 15.47 billion in the same month of 2018.
The growth witnessed by the emirate’s trade during the first two months of this year, supported by the increase in the value of re-export trade to AED 8.8 billion, an increase of 47% compared to 6 billion dirhams during the same period of 2018, according to figures released today by the Abu Dhabi Statistics Center .
The significant development of re-exports reflects the distinct position of Abu Dhabi and the UAE as a regional hub for this type of trade, supported by world-class infrastructure and strategic ports in terms of geographical and service location.
On the import side, it grew 5.6% from AED 16.2 billion in January and February 2018 to AED 17.11 billion in the same period last year.
The emirate’s exports remained at almost the same levels during the first two months of this year, reaching AED 9.9 billion.
Statistics on the value of non-oil commodity trade are limited to goods that have entered or exited the land, sea and air ports of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. Thus, these commodities do not represent all non-oil trade with the outside world. The Department of Finance – Customs Department is the source of the data contained in the report of the Statistics Center, and the figures are limited to the trade flows recorded in the ports within the jurisdiction of the Customs Administration
