Jordan’s energy and minerals decide to close 82 different quarries

The Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Jordanian Energy and Minerals Regulatory Authority, Farouk Al-Hayari, said that during the first quarter of this year, the Authority issued 82 decisions to close the quarries / breakers in violation of the conditions of granting licenses and warned 11 additional quarries.

He added in a press statement Sunday that these decisions came out of field visits and inspection carried out by teams headed by the Commission and targeted 270 mines and quarries since the beginning of the year until the end of last March, noting that these rounds, which come in the framework of the oversight role of the Commission on the mining sector, ; To ensure that mines and quarries have the necessary licenses and compliance with the legislation in force and the terms of licenses and mining rights granted.

He stressed that the Commission will continue its field visits and intensive campaigns on a daily basis to all quarries and crackers, especially those operating without a license to stop them from work and to correct all violations in all regions of the Kingdom.

He pointed out that the Commission will not be negligent in the face of violations committed by some owners of quarries and fractures based on the negative impact of violations on the environment and the attack on the property of others and the waste of public money.

He pointed out that since the beginning of this year until the end of March 2018, the Authority issued 665 licenses, including 577 export licenses for stone materials and 88 quarry licenses.

In view of its interest in the sector, the Authority had set a general policy for the renewal of the license for the approval of consultancy services offices to obtain the right of mining and amended the standard mining license to further regulate this area.

The Commission also issued a decision to confirm the need to obtain the decision of the Central Licenses Committee in the Ministry of Environment before the issuance of a no-objection or approval of the issuance of licenses or mining rights based on the decision of the Central Licensing Commission.

He explained that these efforts come within the framework of the Authority’s efforts to upgrade the mining sector in the Kingdom through regulation and control to enhance its contribution to GDP while ensuring the preservation of human health and the environment.
