In a report published in Brussels on Wednesday, the European Commission recommended granting Bosnia and Herzegovina the status of a candidate, which is subject to reforms and conditions.
In his statement, EU Enlargement Commissioner Oliver Farrelly urged leaders in Bosnia to “make the most of this historic opportunity” and make progress on reforms in the text of the declaration.
It is noteworthy that the placement of an EU candidate is the first step in a long and complex path to membership of the bloc and requires the unanimous approval of all EU member states. The European Commission (the executive arm) of the bloc is reviewing the nomination files.
