A study warns: 600 animals and 1700 plants are threatened with extinction in the Arab region

A Moroccan study warned of major threats to biodiversity in the Arab region due to human activities and climatic changes.

According to the study published by the Moroccan “Hespress” website, “more than 600 animal species of rare species are threatened with extinction” throughout the Arab countries.

The study, prepared by Moroccan researcher and parliamentarian, Raja El Kassab, noted that “out of 8,371 plant species, 1,700 rare species are threatened with extinction,” noting that “more than 75% of these species are very rare, which represents a potential loss of plant diversity by 24 percent. %”, according to the research paper.

And she warned that “the Arab region, including Morocco, has so far lost 95% of its original habitat due to human activities, climatic changes and changes in the practice of agriculture.”
