The UAE has witnessed a remarkable increase in the number of organic plant products over the past six months by 53 percent, with the data of the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology “Specification” showing a clear rise in the number of products from 1240 products in the last quarter of last year to 2356 products by April.
This increase in products was accompanied by a similar increase in the area of the UAE organic farms by 1.8 million square meters during the same period. It produces about 1116 new organic products in the country markets, including vegetables, fruit and dates to the production farms for meat, poultry, table eggs and others, according to the Director General of the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology .
The organic products are an ideal opportunity to diversify national investments in the agricultural and production sector and support the “specifications” of this trend through the issuance of certificates of conformity to organic farms to qualify these products for export outside the country and open new markets to UAE producers, in foreign markets.
He pointed out that the certificates of conformity issued by the Commission for organic farms, in addition to their direct support to the national farmers, also serve the objectives of the National Agenda 2021 and help national companies to raise the quality of their products and thus ensure the accessibility of these products to the local, regional and international markets, “Organic” from the body.
Organic products are of great interest to consumers and are popular in local, Gulf and regional markets to convince consumers that the organic product is safe for its production of any substances, fertilizers, pesticides or abnormal chemical additives and has developed a “specification” for this set of controls These products are based on the highest global standards in cultivation, processing and food production.
ESMA gives the “specifications” of an “organic” mark within a so-called Farm Matching Certificate stating that its products comply with the standards of organic products according to the UAE conformity assessment program “ECAS” which confirms their conformity with the technical requirements contained in Ministerial Resolution No. 84 of 2012.
He explained that these conditions adopted in the State relate to the production, processing and circulation of organic inputs and products and apply to every natural or legal person that produces, manufactures or markets organic inputs and products. The procedures also deal with the conservation or conversion of organic products as well as the purchase by any means of transport.
The UAE government supports environmentally friendly projects that are consistent with sustainability concepts and that organic agriculture is an integrated system aimed at sustaining agricultural production, environmental resources and human health. The ESMA is coordinating with the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment to promote this file within an integrated framework between government agencies in the country.
