5671 cases of theft of electric current since the beginning of the year in Jordan

The Organization of Energy and Minerals Regulatory Authority announced on Wednesday the seizure of 5671 cases of illegal immigration of electricity since the beginning of this year until the end of March, and the transfer of 484 cases to the judiciary and issued during this period judgments in 478 cases.
The Chairman of the Board of Commissioners Eng. Farouk Hayari said in a press statement on Wednesday that the seizures were made through 75,759 periodic and programmatic disclosures carried out by cadres in cooperation with the competent authorities, noting that the share of the Authority of the total seizures amounted to 2791 cases of illegal migration of electric power, The total number of seizures carried out by the electricity distribution companies was 2050, while the public security forces and the gendarmerie seized 830 cases.
The number of cases registered and considered by the courts during the first three months of 2018, according to Engineer Hayari, a total of 484 cases distributed by 122 cases recorded by Jordan Electricity Company, and 332 cases recorded by Irbid Electricity Company and 30 cases in the distribution of electricity.
The cases in which judicial rulings were issued last year amounted to 478 cases, of which 150 were in the Jordanian Electricity Company, 201 in the Irbid Electricity Company and 127 in the Electricity Distribution Company.
Al-Hiyari stressed the continuation of the Commission’s role in exercising its supervisory role on the electrical system in the Kingdom and activating the judicial authority to monitor the performance of the electricity distribution companies in the Kingdom. He urged the electricity distribution companies to coordinate with the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Authority and cooperate with the General Security and Gendarmerie forces. The regulations implemented by the companies to ascertain the legality of the control process and its completion in accordance with the law and to ensure that the case is transferable to the judiciary.
He also stressed the importance of the role of cadres working in companies to facilitate the provision of services to citizens within the provinces and receive complaints to activate the role of the regulatory body in the field of consumer protection and control the commitment of electricity companies to provide the services provided in the licenses granted to them.
He said that the aim of these campaigns is to combat the phenomenon of the illegal exploitation of electrical energy to ensure the security of energy supply and preserve the rights of citizens committed and investors in the sector.
He stressed the importance of the role of the citizen partner in the maintenance of the electrical system, by informing the electricity distribution companies and the organization of the energy sector and minerals in any suspected cases.
The law punishes the aggressors of the electric system, who practice the theft of electric current imprisonment from six months to two years or a fine of not less than two thousand dinars and not more than ten thousand dinars or both penalties.
The law also punishes anyone who deliberately destroys, destroys or disrupts electrical installations or the right to harm them by imprisonment for one to three years or a fine of not less than two thousand dinars and not more than one hundred thousand dinars or both. Public Safety.
