This session is the largest in the history of the exhibition in terms of space and the number of cultural sites that host more than 2,000 cultural, literary, knowledge and artistic activities, and also witnesses the participation of the largest number of exhibitors and publishers, with a total of more than 1,300 exhibitors from more than 85 countries presenting more than 500 thousand titles.
This edition is exceptional in view of the size and diversity of its activities, which provide a distinctive cultural, artistic and literary experience that meets the aspirations and interests of visitors of different tastes and age groups, thus contributing to the consolidation of Abu Dhabi’s position as the book capital and a beacon of cultural and intellectual radiation. The exhibition receives its visitors in 6 cultural sites, which include, in addition to ADNEC, the Cultural Foundation – Abu Dhabi, Manarat Al Saadiyat, Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, New York University Abu Dhabi, and the ship “Logos Hope”, the largest floating book fair in the world, which is currently moored in Port Zayed.
The Republic of Turkey is the guest of honor of the exhibition this year, to present an integrated program to introduce Turkish culture, its literary colors and its fields of knowledge within a special pavilion that embraces many events and seminars that discuss cultural exchange between Turkey and the Arab world, and ways to enhance dialogue between them, in addition to lectures and sessions that take visitors to the pavilion on a journey. Through the history of Turkish literature, Arabic and Turkish poetry, and literary translations between the two languages, and gives visitors the opportunity to participate in dialogues and seminars on several topics, including “Women change the rules of the game”, “Philosophy for children” and “Turkish culinary culture”, in addition to listening to famous authors such as ” Bashir Aivazoglu and Mehmet Hakki Sotschin. The Turkish pavilion also includes a number of prominent publishers and partners, including the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce.
The exhibition also celebrates the achievements of the 14th-century Arab philosopher Ibn Khaldun, the founder of sociology, as the “pivotal figure” of this cycle through historical, philosophical and literary discussions focusing on his work and legacy.
The list of speakers includes a group of critics, professors and historians, such as the Tunisian historian and archaeologist Dr. Ibrahim Shabouh, who was known for his interest in investigating the works of Ibn Khaldun, and the philosopher and thinker d. Ahmed Barqawi, and the British writer Anthony Satine.
The exhibition celebrates the concept of “sustainability” as a central idea for its 32nd session, in line with the UAE’s declaration of 2023 as the year of sustainability, and prior to hosting the activities of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change “COP28” next November, as it devotes seminars and dialogue sessions on activating sustainability in its concept. Comprehensive course in various fields such as climate and food security, and discusses ways to enhance youth awareness of achieving sustainable development.
The events deal with two important axes for the cultural sector, which are sustainability in the publishing industry, and the role of museums in promoting the concept of sustainability among the public.
More than 2,000 events covering various fields of culture, creativity and knowledge await visitors to the exhibition, including more than 130 sessions in the cultural programme, as well as a variety of dialogue sessions, seminars, and literary, cultural and intellectual evenings with the participation of more than 800 guests and speakers among the most prominent writers, thinkers and pioneers in the field. various fields.
The professional program includes 46 sessions that highlight the most important topics related to culture and the publishing sector, such as marketing, translation, partnerships, and the content industry.
The exhibition also presents screenings of a selection of the most beautiful films as part of the “Black Box Cinema” activities, while the “Podcast from Abu Dhabi” is launched for the first time, with the aim of giving the audience the opportunity to get acquainted with the stars of podcast presenters in the Arab world closely, and to watch their recording of their episodes directly.
This session will include a concert by artist Ali Al-Hajjar at the Cultural Complex on Saturday, May 27 at 8:00 pm, in celebration of the late Egyptian poet Abdel Rahman Al-Abnudi, as he sings a group of songs that brought them together.
With the aim of enhancing interest in science and culture among future generations and developing their creative skills, this year the exhibition introduced the “Alpha Corner”, which provides interactive activities that enrich the knowledge of its visitors in the fields of space and science.
Children and youth visitors to the exhibition will enjoy more than 1,800 educational and recreational activities in various fields of art and knowledge.
