The aluminum sector contributes about 1.4% of the country’s GDP

Emirates International Aluminum Company, the UAE’s largest industrial company outside the oil and gas sector, as well as the UAE’s aluminum sector, contributed 1.4% of the UAE’s GDP in 2017.
Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri, Minister of Economy, said that the ministry is working to develop the country’s competitive capabilities by focusing on developing economic policies that support diversifying sources of income, boosting economic growth and enhancing the sustainability of the various productive sectors, which are the main pillar in creating job opportunities and developing competencies. And cadres of citizenship and the transfer and resettlement of knowledge and technology.
Al-Mansouri added that Emirates Aluminum is one of the world’s leading companies in this field, which has contributed to enhancing the reputation of the national economy in foreign markets, as well as its role in localization of knowledge, transfer of expertise and technology and generating many economic opportunities in the local markets related to the supply chain.
A study by Oxford Economics, a global economic consultancy based on data from industry and economic models, found that the aluminum sector supports about 60,950 jobs across the UAE, accounting for 1.0 percent of all jobs in the country. One person in every 100 people in the UAE in the aluminum sector or in other sectors thanks to sector expenditures on local suppliers and payment of wages spent in the local consumer goods economy.
Emirates Aluminum began its production in 1979 as the Dubai Aluminum Company (DUBAL). It is currently one of the largest aluminum companies in the world and the heart of the UAE’s leading industrial sector.
