US stocks open lower on global growth fears

US stocks opened lower today as pessimistic data from Europe boosted fears of a global economic slowdown after a surprise move by the Federal Reserve to ease monetary policy earlier this week.
The Dow Jones industrial average was down 117.86 points, or 0.45 percent, at 25,844.65. The Standard & Poor’s 500 Index shed 10.36 points, or 0.36 percent, to 2,844.52. The Nasdaq Composite Index was down 38.70 points, or 0.49 percent, at 7,800.
