Al Suwaidi pointed out that the Fund’s presence in the country’s delegation in this year’s edition is important to continue supporting development projects around the world and to enhance joint international cooperation to achieve the goals of sustainable development, pointing out that the delegation highlighted during the participation the Fund’s pioneering efforts that are in line with the country’s vision regarding achieving the global goals of sustainable development, especially since the forum focuses this year on specific goals, most notably Goal No. 17, which is “strengthening partnerships to achieve the goals.”
On the highlights of what the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development presented at the high-level political forum this year, HE Mohamed Saif Al Suwaidi said that the Fund participated in many sessions and meetings, the most important of which was a session entitled “Cooperation with the World” that was held at the headquarters of the Permanent Mission of the UAE to the United Nations in New York, during which the focus was on highlighting the pioneering efforts of the UAE in the field of development work and its continued achievement of its development goals in supporting developing countries through the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, as well as reviewing the positive impact of development projects funded by the Fund in many countries, which contributed to stimulating economic activities major communities of the beneficiary countries, and improve the standard of living of their inhabitants.
He said that the fund presented, in this session, the results of its operational activity for the year 2022, as its total financing, investments, and bank deposits amounted to more than 189 billion dirhams, and 104 countries in various continents of the world benefited from its development financing, which contributed to the growth of the economies of developing countries and the achievement of their development goals and programs.
Al Suwaidi added that the interactive discussions and bilateral and group meetings within the UAE government delegation at the high-level political forum this year provided an important opportunity to unify efforts and discuss best global practices, innovative solutions and means that contribute to accelerating the achievement of the global goals of sustainable development and building a more prosperous and developing future for the societies of countries, stressing that the UAE attaches great importance to development and the formation of global strategic partnerships, which are matters that lie at the core of its approach and strategic vision aimed at building a bright and sustainable future for the peoples of the world.
Regarding the international efforts made so far in the process of achieving the sustainable development goals, HE Mohamed Saif Al Suwaidi said that they have achieved outstanding results, whose great impact we see on the societies of the beneficiary countries, and that achieving the sustainable development goals is a comprehensive responsibility that begins with individuals, institutions and economic actors and expands to include societies, governments, countries and international organizations.
Regarding the UAE’s efforts to support the achievement of sustainable development goals globally, he said that the UAE played a decisive role and had a global impact in promoting the sustainable development process. It announced, among the “50 projects” in 2021, the UAE’s strategic initiative to achieve climate neutrality by 2050 in a declaration that is the first of its kind in the region.
