Egypt: promising figures for telecommunications and information technology in 2018

Egypt’s GDP growth rate for the ICT sector in 2018 increased by 14 percent, reaching 80 billion pounds during the fiscal year 2017-2018 compared to 70 billion pounds during the fiscal year 2016-2017.
Investments in the sector jumped by 38 percent, with investments reaching 21.8 billion pounds during the fiscal year 2017-2018 compared to 15.8 billion pounds during the fiscal year 2016-2017.
The Information Center of the Egyptian Council of Ministers announced that the number of companies established during the period from January to September 2018 amounted to 999 new companies, with capital amounted to 976 million pounds, in addition to the implementation of 12 projects worth 1.3 billion pounds.
The value of exports of IT services exceeded $ 3.25 billion, the center said in a statement.
In addition, the year 2018 witnessed the victory of Egypt in the membership of the Administrative Council of the International Telecommunication Union for the period from 2019 to 2022, in addition to the issuance of the law against the crimes of information technology, in addition to the provision of 8 electronic services for citizens, notably payment of traffic violations and the issuance of certificates of innocence in cooperation With the Public Prosecutor’s Office, and another 20 services are under way.
