Abu Dhabi 02-09-2019 / WAM
The TRA has asked all concerned to provide feedback on the key features of the IMT-2020 technology strategy known as the ‘G5’ in the UAE.
Advanced communications – known as 5G – is the next technological revolution in mobile broadband. In line with the UAE Vision 2021, the TRA aims to be the main driver for the official launch of this technology during 2020.
The CMA’s request in this regard came as a result of a consultation on its website that started on September 1st and extends until the 15th of the same month, based on the values of cooperation, interaction and commitment followed in the CMA’s operations.
The CMA stressed that this consultation aims to keep pace with the developments in the sector, which enhances the participation of all partners and stakeholders by providing their comments and comments on the texts proposed in this document, before the CMA takes its final decision in this regard.
Interested parties wishing to provide responses to this consultation should submit this in writing to the Commission or via e-mail.
In 2017, the TRA adopted a roadmap for the implementation of 5G networks in order to enable the early release of this advanced technology and has allocated 200 MHz of frequency spectrum to give the licensees of mobile service providers in the country to deploy networks of this generation.
It is noteworthy that the mobile service providers in the country confirmed the availability of the fifth generation network in the Expo site, before the end of 2019.
