The number of building licenses issued in Jordan, according to the Department of Statistics, decreased in the first five months of this year to 14,621 licenses by 12.5 percent compared with 16,704 licenses during the same period last year. The total area of ​​licensed buildings reached 5625 thousand square meters in the first five months of 2018 compared to 5708 thousand square meters during the same period last year, a decrease of 1.5 percent. The total number of buildings licensed for residential purposes during the first five months of 2018 was 4,077 thousand square meters, compared with 4,460 thousand square meters during the same period of 2017, a decline of 8.6 percent, while the area of ​​buildings licensed for non-residential purposes during the first five months From 2018 about 1548 thousand square meters, compared with 1248 thousand square meters during the same period in 2017, up 24 percent. The area licensed for residential purposes during the first five months of 2018 constituted 72.5% of the total area of ​​licensed buildings. The area of ​​buildings licensed for non-residential purposes constituted 27.5% of the total area of ​​licensed buildings.
