121.6 billion dirhams tourism spending in Dubai, a growth of 70%

The volume of domestic tourism spending in Dubai increased during 2022 by 35.3%, to reach 13.6 billion dirhams ($3.7 billion), compared to 10 billion dirhams in 2021, according to the expectations of the World Travel and Tourism Council.

The continuous increase in the volume of spending from domestic tourism reflects the success of promotional campaigns, whether at the Dubai level, such as the “Dubai Destinations” campaign or the “The Most Beautiful Winter in the World” campaign at the state level, which enhances the attractiveness of tourist, entertainment, cultural and artistic destinations to residents and citizens, in addition to tourism. International, which is experiencing strong growth.

Estimates of the “Council” indicated in a recently published report, seen by “The Gulf”, that spending on domestic tourism in Dubai during 2022 exceeded pre-pandemic levels by 27%, from 10.7 billion dirhams in 2019.

The spending of international tourists in Dubai during 2020 exceeded pre-pandemic levels, reaching 108 billion dirhams, an increase of 1.4%, compared to 106.5 billion dirhams in 2019.

According to the report, the total volume of spending from international and domestic tourism reached 121.6 billion dirhams in 2022, compared to 72.1 billion dirhams in 2021, a growth of 69%.

The “Dubai Destinations” campaign, during its winter season, encourages residents and visitors to discover the various recreational activities in Dubai and experience many adventures and family activities that make the city a unique winter destination.

The third edition of the “The Most Beautiful Winter in the World” campaign concluded at the state level, achieving qualitative economic results for domestic tourism, as the revenues of hotel establishments amounted to 1.8 billion dirhams, an increase of 20%, compared to the second edition of the campaign, which amounted to 1.5 billion dirhams.

14.3 million visitors

The Department of Economy and Tourism in Dubai revealed an increase in the number of international visitors to Dubai during the year 2022, as the emirate received 14.36 million international visitors from January to December 2022, an increase of 97% compared to the same period in 2021, during which the city received 7.28 million visitors, To exceed the levels of recovery of the global and regional tourism sector.

The hotel sector in Dubai, which is considered an essential part of the growth of the tourism sector in the emirate, continued its strong performance by achieving high growth rates in all categories and standards of hospitality. The average occupancy of hotel rooms reached 73%, which is one of the highest rates in the world compared to the 67% recorded in 2021, and is close to the levels of 2019, in which it recorded 75%.

And this strong activity continued at the level of the tourism sector in Dubai during the beginning of 2023, as data showed that Dubai received, last January, more than 1.47 million international tourists, compared to 980,000 tourists who visited Dubai in January 2022, an increase of about 50%.

Contribute to the economy

The Cities Economic Impact Report shows that in 2019, the travel and tourism sector contributed nearly Dh51 billion to Dubai’s economy.

He pointed out that the travel and tourism sector in Dubai is expected to reach 46 billion dirhams in 2022, which is only 10% less than the levels of 2019. The report indicated that in 2021, jobs increased by 10% in Dubai, reaching more than 231 thousand jobs. The World Travel and Tourism Council expected an increase in the number of jobs in Dubai, as employment is set to increase by 13% to approximately 262,000 jobs.

25 million guests in UAE hotels

Hotel establishments in the UAE received 25 million guests, who spent 91 million tourist nights by the end of 2022, with a growth of 18% from 2021, and 7% from 2019, according to the Ministry of Economy.

Hotel revenues achieved a qualitative leap, as total hotel revenues reached 38 billion dirhams, with a growth rate of 23% over 2019.
