Abu Dhabi 03-09-2019 / WAM
The contribution of the manufacturing sector to the non-oil GDP at constant prices of the UAE increased to AED 122 billion in 2018, an increase of 2.5% compared to AED 119.7 billion in 2017.
The manufacturing sector came in the forefront of the most economic sectors that maintained good growth rates during the past five years, according to figures released by the Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Authority in coordination with the competent authorities in the country.
The total output value of the sector recorded a growth of 5% in 2017 compared to 2016, where the growth rate reached 4.8%, according to statistics documented.
The manufacturing sector is considered one of the most important sectors in support of the policy of diversifying the economic base adopted by the State and has proved a great success during the past period with the testimony of major international economic institutions.
The achievements of the sector reflect the success of the UAE in establishing a strong base for industries, according to a well-defined plan and objectives to keep pace with the aspirations of the State in preparing for the post-oil phase and embodied with the UAE Vision 2021.
In the past years, the UAE has provided the necessary infrastructure for the sector by creating an attractive legislative environment for investment in manufacturing industries and the industrial sector in general, which contributed to the achievements that helped make the country a global competitor in the sector.
While Dubai is focused on developing services and light industries, Abu Dhabi’s competitive advantage lies in heavy manufacturing, which means increasing the sector’s contribution to the country’s GDP in the final outcome.
