Director of competition and consumer protection vow to carry out inspection on markets to curb violations by retailers

The Director of Competition and Consumer Protection Department of the Ministry of Economy said that since the beginning of 2018, the Department has carried out 12,681 inspection tours to the country’s markets as part of its keenness to establish sound consumer and commercial practices and deter any violations and guarantee the rights of consumers.

The Ministry of Economy has set up a plan for field tours before, during and after the holy month of Ramadan, which includes cooperatives, outlets, grocery stores, meat markets, chicken and fish in different to ensure that prices are maintained at their levels and the commitment of ports and markets to implement the initiatives that have been announced and agreed upon with the ministry, pointing out that the targeted plan of field tours during the month of Ramadan to this year includes 450 public and private tour.

The Director of Competition and Consumer Protection Department at the Ministry of Economy pointed out that the Ministry has put in place a mechanism to activate the recall of goods through a special website explaining all the goods called to educate the consumers about their quality and potential damages, as well as publishing in the daily newspapers for 3 days in Arabic and any other language to inform the consumer of the quality of the call And preventive ways.

He pointed out that activation of the call mechanism comes in light of the provisions of the Federal Law No. 24 of 2006 regarding consumer protection in terms of ensuring conformity of the product or service provided to the consumer to the approved standard specifications and procedures and measures for consumer protection in the event of a defect in the product or service at the use.

The total number of calls during the year 2018 was 287501 calls by 127 campaign calls a decrease of about 38 percent of the total calls in 2017, which saw 113 callers, while the total calls in the first quarter of this year, 7347 call by 23 callback campaign against 37 Campaign during the same period of 2018.

He stressed the continuation of the text message initiative, which is sent to the owners of cars in the State in cooperation with the Ministry of the Interior so that they are informed of the calls to review the authorized agents to ensure their safety and rights.

He pointed out that the Department of Consumer Protection at the Ministry of Economy received consumer complaints and worked to solve them in cooperation with the competent authorities in the State. He pointed out that the total complaints since the beginning of the third quarter of 2017 to the present time in different emirates of the state reached 24182 complaints distributed in 9 categories, Prices and complaints of cars, electronics, telephones, credit cards and others.

The results of a study conducted by the Competition and Consumer Protection Department of the Ministry of Economy to measure the level of satisfaction with the ministry’s activities to raise consumer awareness, indicating that the satisfaction rate was about 83 percent.
