281.6 billion dirhams volume of non-oil trade between the UAE and Japan

The Commissioner of the Federal Customs Authority, Ali bin Sabih al-Kaabi, discussed with a Japanese delegation ways to enhance joint customs cooperation and sign an agreement for technical and administrative customs cooperation, in addition to mutual recognition of the approved economic operator system, exchange of experiences and increasing trade between the two countries.
This came during a meeting with Commissioner Ali Al Kaabi at Abu Dhabi’s headquarters on Thursday morning, including Yasuhisa Nako, Deputy Minister of Finance for International Affairs, Koturo Suzuki, Charge d’affaires of the Japanese Embassy to the UAE, and Rio Ishi, Head of Economic Section at the Embassy. Director of the Office of the Head of the Commission, and Saud Al-Aqroubi, Director of International Relations.
Al-Kaabi stressed that Japan is a strategic trading partner of the UAE in light of the relations of cooperation and partnership between the two countries throughout history. He pointed out that Japan’s experience in developing customs work and managing customs risks is one of the most important experiences in the world. Experiences and best practices to enhance the efficiency of the customs sector in both countries.
Japan is among the top 10 trade partners in the UAE, with data from the Federal Customs Authority showing that the volume of trade between the two countries reached 281.6 billion dirhams ($ 77.2 billion) between 2013 and 2017.
UAE exports to Japan totaled AED 263 billion (US $ 72 billion), while UAE exports amounted to AED 10.7 billion (US $ 2.9 billion). The value of re-exports was AED 8 billion (US $ 2.2 billion).
