88.59 million visitors to Japan in 2018

The number of foreign visitors booked in hotels, apartments and other accommodation in Japan reached a record 88.59 million in 2018, according to the Japanese Tourism Agency, which noted that the number exceeded 80 million for the first time as the Japanese government intensified efforts to attract foreign visitors in 2020 when Tokyo hosts the Olympic Games and the Paralympic Games.
According to the country and the region, China accounted for the largest number of guest guests at 20.94 million, while the United States came in fifth place at 5.33 million tourists.
