Media In Abu Dhabi, November 27, 2018 (WAM)
Abu Dhabi Ports has selected Kony Crane to supply its automated stacking cranes (ASC) in the second phase of the construction of the container terminal run by Khalifa Port.
In line with the vision of the UAE’s wise leadership, the Abu Dhabi and Abu Dhabi ports have the expansion of Khalifa Port and the southern port of Khalifa Port, the largest investment since the opening of Khalifa Port. The project is a critical achievement for Abu Dhabi’s ports and trade in the UAE as a whole and will see capacity growth from 2.5 million TEU to 5.5 million TEU by 2021 with plans to connect it to the rail network in the future.
These projects will jointly provide global levels of communication and customer service as an important part of achieving Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030, where Abu Dhabi Ports currently contributes 3.3% of Abu Dhabi’s non-oil GDP growth.
The second phase includes a significant expansion of the container terminal, infrastructure and operational capacity of the plant, including the delivery of 54 automated cranes from Kony Crane.
Abdulla Al Hamli, Acting CEO of Abu Dhabi Ports, said that the performance of Kony Crane in the first phase of the construction of the container terminal was successful and pivotal in automation on time. The infrastructure project is important for Khalifa Container Terminal and we chose Kony Crane for their technology expertise. Which they use and our confidence in their ability to transfer expertise and provide support services.
It is worth mentioning that the 54 cranes that will be delivered at this stage are similar to the first stage cranes. They have a capacity of lifting 40 tons and stacking containers with one height of six. The 30 cranes offer 9 containers and 24 cranes with 11 containers, all equipped with control mechanisms and a universal control system (ALC), a system that combines advanced properties for swing control and accurate positioning of horizontal position, while ensuring efficient handling of containers in the yard of automatic stacking cranes during simultaneous and remote operations.
