Agreement on Combating Commercial Fraud and Consumer Protection in Abu Dhabi

 The Ministry of Economy and the Department of Economic Development – Abu Dhabi signed a joint cooperation agreement aimed at developing and activating the mechanism of joint action and coordination on inspection and control of the markets, especially in the technical, technical, legal and training fields related to the field of trade protection, consumer protection and trademarks. The signing of the MoU is part of the steps taken by the Ministry of Economy to empower its federal authorities to combat commercial fraud, regulate commercial agencies, copyright, trademarks and consumer protection to the economic development departments of the various emirates to take advantage of the available facilities. Eng. Mohammed Ahmed bin Abdul Aziz Al Shehhi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy for Economic Affairs said that the ministry is working to enhance the level of cooperation and coordination with economic development departments in various emirates of the UAE. He added that under the agreement, the Department of Economic Development in Abu Dhabi is vested with the federal powers vested in the ministry, which is determined by a set of federal laws related to combating commercial fraud, organizing agencies, trademarks and consumer protection, so that the department is the authority concerned with inspections, monitoring, receiving and handling complaints in the markets of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. Federal economic laws, regulations and orders relating to trade protection, consumer protection and control of economic activities and economic establishments operating in the Emirate. Khalifa Salem Al Mansouri, Undersecretary of the Department of Economic Development, said that the agreement is important in implementing and developing procedures related to the supervision of economic activities in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi according to an institutional framework in line with the vision and strategy of the UAE and its international commitments.
