Announcement of companies eligible to participate in Taweelah desalination project

The Department of Energy in Abu Dhabi announced the list of companies eligible to participate in the competitive business to select a developer or consortium of developers that will have a maximum of 40% of the desalination plant project to be established under the laws of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and the UAE to produce desalinated water with an independent product system through reverse osmosis technology with a capacity of 200 million Gallon.
The project will include the development, financing, construction, operation, maintenance and ownership of a desalination plant with a capacity of 200 million gallons of water per day (MIGD) as well as related infrastructure. The planned plant will be located at Taweelah Water and Electricity Complex in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, North of Abu Dhabi Emirate.
“This project will help support Abu Dhabi’s sustainability, diversity of energy sources and water security,” said Eng. Awaidah Morshed Al Marar, Head of Energy.
“We aim to develop and strengthen the infrastructure of the Emirate by introducing projects that meet the increasing demand in various energy fields. By adopting the Taweelah Desalination Water Reverse Osmosis Project, we confirm the readiness of the infrastructure and energy sector to keep pace with the latest technologies and high efficiency.
More than 40 companies responded to and expressed interest in the tender, which was put forward in the international and local press in January this year. Twenty-seven companies submitted a statement of qualifications based on the request issued on 15 February 2018.
