Asia markets fall amid US-China trade tension

Asia markets declined in Thursday afternoon trade as investors worried about the ongoing trade tensions between the United States and China.

Mainland Chinese shares slipped by the afternoon, as the Shanghai composite declined 0.84% and the Shenzhen component fell 1.67%. The Shenzhen composite also declined 1.475%.

Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index also declined 1.3%.

Elsewhere, the Nikkei 225 in Japan slipped 0.62% in morning trade. Shares of index heavyweight and conglomerate Softbank Group plunged more than 5% after that U.S. Justice Department staff have recommended blocking a deal between T-Mobile and rival Sprint. The Topix index also shed 0.44%.

In South Korea, the Kospi fell fractionally, while Australia’s ASX 200 declined 0.22%.
