The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture of Saudi Arabia has set guidelines for the quality of dates in the Kingdom to help bear the transfer of dates and their high quality within the framework of facilitating trade (local and regional) and international and increasing the economic return of producers and exporters.
The specifications, announced at the World Dates Conference, cover eleven of the most important date varieties in the Kingdom and protect the interests of consumers. The efficiency of production helps to increase the competitiveness of Saudi dates, making it a global market standard.
The standard guidelines for quality have excluded non-pollinated, growth-prone dates or dates showing signs of immaturity or nucleation-free, as well as excluding dates that are not stained, scars, color-changing and burnt.
In accordance with the Saudi Dates specifications, the owner or seller of products that do not meet the requirements of the standards stipulated shall not offer, sell, deliver, or otherwise market its products, and its products shall be free of any abnormal external moisture, Or strange taste, and that the microbiological limits according to the standard Gulf.
The World Conference on Dates, held in Riyadh recently, recommended the application of sound agricultural practices, the use of modern technologies that contribute to raising production and quality, conserving water and reducing costs, making maximum use of research centers and expert houses such as universities and successful experiments in this field.
