Media IN DUBAI, 11th June, 2019 (WAM):

Dubai’s Jebel Ali Port has emerged as the UAE’s leading hub for the used cars sector, generating some AED31.8 million ($ 8.6m)  in automotive spare parts trade, revealed DP World UAE Region.

DP World UAE Region is offering its customers the most robust infrastructure for the automotive trade in the region.

The step comes along with the UAE government goals and the entities’ plan to diversify its economy, the Dubai-based ports operator said in a statement on Monday.

“The trade enabler has been a leading player in developing and facilitating the nation’s automotive sector since its inception, proving it to be the preferred trade hub in the region,” the statement highlighted.

“The automotive and spare parts sector are core segments that are leading drivers of economic diversification in the country. DP World, UAE Region is committed to helping the industry reach its full potential through our bouquet of world-class services and solutions,” Mohammed Al Muallem, CEO and managing director of DP World and UAE Region, commented.

Dubai’s state-owned ports operator revealed that Jebel Ali Port saw 54% of the regional throughput, while Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza), has accounted for 48% of Dubai’s total trade value with over 550 companies in over 60 countries for the sector in the full-year 2018.

“The integrated multimodal hub we have created with Jebel Ali Port and our Parks and Zones which include Jafza, Dubai Auto Zone (DAZ) and National Industries Park (NIP), is designed to accommodate door-to-door logistics services,” the CEO added.

It is worth noting that Jebel Ali Port, the 11th largest container port globally, and Jafza prove to be significant drivers for economic growth in Dubai, accounting for 33.4% of Dubai’s gross domestic product (GDP).
