In order to improve food safety awareness within the emirate, Dubai Municipality announced the launch of two smart services that will help attain sustainable city objectives.
The two new services include the ‘Food watch Smart Permits’ and ‘Food watch Confidence’. The Food watch platform seeks to improve the nation’s food safety culture by allowing regulatory authorities, food establishments, service providers and consumers to use many online features aimed at promoting public health and making effective use of available resources.
The CEO of Dubai Municipality’s Health, Safety and Environment Sector said that the “Food watch is a unique platform that is driven by the use of big data to raise human performance in food safety and harmonise the food safety system in Dubai.
He went on to say that the data collected will become a model for the setting up of BlockChain technologies for food safety at local, regional and international levels.
There has been a big challenge of managing day to day records of food and safety management operations . Currently, more than 90 percent of records maintained by the Municipality are paper-based. The launch of the Foodwatch platform aims to eliminate the use of paper records, contributing to the Emirate of Dubai’s 2021 paperless government vision.
The ‘Smart Permit’s feature of the platform also has the added benefit of reducing the time it takes to obtain a permit from 50 hours to five minutes. Permits provided within the platform include those for preparing food at events, licences to sell food on vehicles (food trucks) and to supply food at school canteens.
