“Dubai Roads” achieved electricity savings of 21.7 GWh in 2018

RTA achieved an electricity saving of 21.7 GWh in 2018 by 9.340 tons reduction of carbon emissions by replacing LED lighting units instead of traditional HID lighting.

The TRA’s implementation plan for this type of replacement operation came after its success in achieving more than 50% savings through pilot projects in development research and studies in several locations in Dubai such as Rashidiya.

The Executive Director of Traffic and Roads Authority, said that the Corporation achieved exceptional performance in the road lighting efficiency index by 125%. It is expected that electricity savings will increase during 2019 to reach about 26 GWh, 18% over the savings realized during 2018.

She stressed the importance of adopting community initiatives to raise awareness about the rationalization of energy consumption in accordance with the Government’s directives and the Dubai 2021 Plan, and to promote a culture of rationalization of energy consumption among citizens and residents in the Emirate, pointing out that these practices lead to positive change at the environmental, economic and societal levels.
