Emirates International Aluminum Company has announced an important milestone in the completion of the Bauxite mining project in the Republic of Guinea in West Africa with the launch of the first bauxite ore mine from its company, Guinea Alumina Corporation, to the company’s facilities in Kamar.
Abdulla Jassim Bin Kalban, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Emirates Aluminum International, said: “This achievement was achieved thanks to thousands of hours of work planned and working in Guinea, including Guinea Alumina Corporation, De Boxette Gnier “and the company” Anime “owner of the existing railway infrastructure and other partners.
The 80-ton train carries about 6,800 tonnes of bauxite and the first bauxite exports are expected to be launched in the second half of 2019. The total cost of the project is about $ 1.4 billion and is the largest institutional investment in the Republic of Guinea over the last four decades.
Guinea Alumina Corporation has completed the spiral and short lines to connect its facilities to a railway track and is also used by other companies.
Guinean Alumina Corporation trains manufactured in the United States as well as manufactured vehicles in China arrived in Guinea last year.
It is said that the train has traveled 90 kilometers on its journey from mine to the coast in less than 3 hours.
Guinea Alumina Corporation is currently working on the construction of port facilities, including the unloading yard and the export pier at the port of Kamar, a port specifically designed for the export of bauxite.
It is expected that when the company’s operations in the region will be completed, six trains loaded with bauxite will be launched daily, cutting off its journey from the mine to the port.
The Republic of Guinea is the largest supplier of bauxite ore in the world, while the Emirates International Aluminum project will contribute significantly to increasing the exports of raw material made of aluminum metal.
Bauxite, extracted from the Guinea Alumina Corporation, will be sold to aluminum producers around the world, and the project’s production is expected to reach about 12 million tonnes per year when operations are stabilized.
The Guinea project represents an important phase of Emirates Aluminum’s strategic plan to expand its production links and the global aluminum industry.
Emirates Aluminum is currently building the first Alumina refinery in the UAE at the Taweelah site in Abu Dhabi, which will be refining bauxite ore into alumina, the main material used in aluminum smelters.
