Gulf Consumer Protection Day Launched with the Slogan “Secure Electronic Shopping”

The 13th Gulf Consumer Protection Day, which starts on March 1st each year, begins on the recommendations of the GCC Consumer Protection Committee, which is celebrated by the Gulf countries through a series of activities and programs aimed at enhancing the protection and satisfaction of consumers.
The announcement was made at a ceremony organized by the Ministry of Economy at the Marriott Hotel in Jeddah, which carried the slogan “Towards Secure Electronic Shopping for Consumers” to shed light on national efforts in the area of ​​consumer protection with a focus on safe e-shopping practices.
Dr. Hashim Al Nuaimi, Director of Competition and Consumer Protection Department at the ministry, said that interest in consumers and protection of their rights is a common goal for the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, pointing out that the Gulf Day is an important annual station that contributes to exchanging experiences and reviewing efforts to achieve more gains in the field of consumer protection.
Al-Nuaimi pointed out that e-commerce has been an important focus in the efforts exerted during the last period due to the vitality of this sector and the many challenges it poses as many steps have been taken to develop and update laws and procedures related to e-shopping,
Abdullah Al Shehhi, Deputy Executive Director, Commercial Control and Consumer Protection Department, Dubai Economic Development Department, said that Dubai’s economy is keen to enhance the online purchasing system through monitoring and inspection of social networking sites and websites and receiving and handling complaints related to electronic commerce. 117 websites and the release of at least 228 violations of non-compliance with the laws and economic requirements of Dubai during the past period and received the Department 1592 complaints related to e-commerce issues.
Dr. Suhail Al Bastaki, Director of the Department of Happiness and Marketing, said that the number of cooperative markets at the end of the year will reach 180, thus giving the consumer more options and offers.
