Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA) reported that 48,000 intelligent meters have been installed in the city of Sharjah until the end of February 2018. All the old meters are now replaced by smart ones in the commercial and industrial areas at a daily rate of 400 to 600 meters.
Dr. Rashid Al-Lim, Chairman of Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority, pointed to the strategy of 2020, which includes intelligent transformation of networks and smart meters system to provide services to more than 450 thousand subscribers and linking them to the remote reading system to provide better service to subscribers. energy.
The Authority has started implementing an integrated plan to change the old meters in a number of commercial and industrial areas, including shops in Wasit Street in the areas of Al Shahba, Khuzamiyah, Al Aabar, Samnan, Industrial Zone 6, Industrial 12, Al Orouba Street and Al Ghuwair area.
Al-Lim explained that the Smart Meters project aims to implement comprehensive solutions that are highly reliable, scalable and suitable for the network, achieve standards at all levels and apply the best technological solutions that suit the requirements of the Authority and the participants.
Mr. Yasser Issa Chery, Director of the Smart Meters Office confirmed that the smart meters achieve many benefits and benefit the two parties, the Authority and the participants. It is characterized by the assistance of the Commission in obtaining accurate results and reducing the dependence on the human element in reading the consumption and avoiding human errors through remote reading because these counters are not exposed For failure due to lack of mechanical parts in it. The smart meter installation project as a pilot project is one of the ambitious projects.
