Jordanian Statistics: 4.4% Average Household Expenditure on Tobacco and Cigarettes

According to a report by the Department of Statistics, the average expenditure of households on tobacco and cigarettes amounted to about 717 million dinars, which amounted to 4.4% of the total expenditure on goods and services, according to the Family and Population Health Survey 2017-2018.
The Department said in a statement on the occasion of World Day to stop smoking, which falls on Thursday, that families spend 2.6% to 4% on health services, culture and entertainment, respectively.
The distribution of the percentage of smoking expenditure by governorate was the highest in Tafileh Governorate by 6.4 percent, followed by Karak, Aqaba, Jarash, 6, and 5 percent, respectively.
“The higher the household size, the higher the per capita expenditure on smoking,” the department said in a statement. “Households ranging in size from 1 to 2 per cent were smoking at 2.8 per cent, while in households ranging from 3 to 4 per cent, Individuals, with the highest value among households ranging from 13 to 14 individuals to reach 7.2 per cent.
The results showed that the Jordanian family spends JD 1.5 billion on daily smoking, while the average expenditure on health services was JD 380 per day, dinars and 600 fils per education.
