Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tariq Al-Mulla said that the Mediterranean region represents a great importance for the world order politically, economically and geographically.
“The importance of the region will increase over the coming years in the light of abundant gas resources due to the huge discoveries, especially in the Eastern Mediterranean region, which will not only affect the region,” Mulla said at a meeting of the operators of the gas transport network for the Mediterranean countries organized by the Egyptian Natural Gas Company (GASCO). Mulla pointed out that the Eastern Mediterranean region has become the focus of most international gas markets, which qualifies it to be a center for trade and trading of natural gas at the global level and expected to exceed its huge supply of natural gas needs of producing countries in light of the strong need for gas in other markets, Whose strategies aim to diversify their gas supplies.
“Within this framework, it is necessary to set up a mechanism to optimize the economic benefits of various current and future gas discoveries to supply potential and target markets and to achieve many economic benefits for the entire region.
The Egyptian Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources noted that the discovery of the field and the other discoveries made in the Eastern Mediterranean Basin recently gave strong impetus to the research and exploration activities in the Mediterranean waters, which contributes to the realization of more invasive discoveries in the region.
