OFID provides development assistance to four African countries

The OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) has agreed to provide $ 81 million to four partner countries, including Burkina Faso and Ethiopia, as well as Guinea and Malawi to help support public sector projects, promote sustainable development and combat poverty.

According to a statement issued by the headquarters of the Fund in the Austrian capital Vienna, Dr. Abdul Hamid Khalifa, Director General of “Ovid” signed the agreements with the ministers of recipient countries, where Burkina Faso to receive nineteen million dollars to develop the road, “Tejan Higuya”, which is 94 kilometers to encourage movement Trade by linking production sites in the capital Ouagadougou and improving the access of some 250,000 people to social services.

OFID is providing $ 22 million to Ethiopia to develop the 68 km long Delawacho road to help promote economic development in an area where agriculture is a major source of income and to improve the access of some 730,000 people to social services and markets.

The OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) supports the $ 25 million Family and Market Agriculture Program in Upper and Central Guinea to help alleviate poverty and enhance food security by modernizing infrastructure and helping farmers rely on modern technologies that benefit some 455,000 people.

Malawi receives $ 15 million to implement the “Shire Valley” project, which enhances access to irrigation and drainage services to citizens and supports increased agricultural productivity and marketing for some 56,000 smallholder households.

OVID also said that Dr. Khalifa signed a new agreement to encourage and protect investments with Suriname Finance Minister Gilmore Hovrad. The agreement sets out a framework for launching cooperation with the private sector in the country.
