Chinese President Xi Jinping said Saturday that more than 64 billion US dollars worth of deals had been signed at the Beijing-Beijing Road and Road Initiative Summit.

Xi said in his remarks during the closing session of the summit that the principles of the market will be applied in all projects of cooperation included in the initiative, according to the agency “Roitzer”.

The belt and road initiative aims to revive the historic Silk Road linking China, Asia and Europe.
The initiative was launched on Friday with the participation of leaders from 37 countries in Asia, Africa and Europe, including Arab countries, which are key pillars of the initiative.

This is the second Summit of the Initiative Forum, launched by the Chinese President in 2013, and seeks to establish trade routes and corridors connecting more than 60 countries, including two main branches, the Silk Road Economic Road Belt and the Silk Road.

Together they make up 65 percent of the world’s population and produce about 40 percent of world production.
The initiative envisages a road belt of railways and roads across Central Asia and Russia, and a maritime route that will allow China to reach Africa and Europe via the China Sea and the Indian Ocean.
