The UAE advanced 19 sub-indices in technological readiness and communications during 2017-2018, according to the Global Competitiveness Index (GCI), one of the most important global indices that measure the microeconomic fundamentals of global competitiveness.
A survey conducted by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) for individual indicators based on the Global Competitiveness Report 2017-2018 showed that the country ranked first in the Arab countries in the number of fixed line lines per 100 population as well as the internet broadband index in kilobytes per user. At the international level, the country ranked first in the world in the field of government purchases of high technology products and ranked second in the world in the rate of mobile Internet access.
The report shows that the UAE ranked third in the world in mobile access rate as well as third in the world in the index of availability of scientists and engineers and ranked fourth in the world with the quality of infrastructure in general.
On the foreign direct investment and technology transfer index, the UAE ranked fourth in the world and ranked sixth in the world in focusing on customer service and ranked ninth in the world with the indicator of the strength of investor protection.
The country ranked eleventh in the global Internet usage rate for Internet users and 13 in the index of schools connected to the Internet and the same ranking in the availability of the latest technology.
